I read a quote sometime ago which said, “luck is preparedness met with opportunity.” So often we wander aimlessly through life, failing to realize that every passing second of our time is valuable and precious. At birth, we are all presented with a package called life …… it is up to us how carefully we open the package, and ultimately…… how positively we utilize its contents. If we use the contents of that package positively, or negatively, the results will determine our destiny. Keep in mind that this package is temporary and must be returned to the rightful owner. We are reminded of the master in the bible, who, upon leaving home presented loans to his three servants. The first servant was given three shares, which he invested, the second servant was given two shares, which he also invested, but the third servant who was given one share, hid his share for fear of his master’s wrath. Upon return, the master added to the shares of the first two servants who had invested their shares, but he took away the one share from the servant who had hidden his share.
Throughout our lives, there are people who have been fortunate to meet others who have recognized their potential and have been instrumental in helping them realize their dreams; however, when the opportunity presents itself, we must be prepared and willing to accept the help, no matter how challenging it may seem at the time. If we have a vision and our goal is to work towards reaching our full potential, we may be require to change course from time to time, but human beings are resilent, and ultimately it’s the end result that really matters. It is believed that most of our talents are inborn, although some might be environmental; therefore, if we use our talents wisely and effectively, we can make significant differences in our lives and the lives of others. Most of us will use only a fraction of our talents in our life time but if that fraction is effective to the point of satisfaction, we will have made a difference. Let us not be like the servant who hid his one share, instead, let us be willing to make wise decisions and use our time and talent constructively, so that we too, will be prepared when opportunities come knocking at our doors.
