Gone Too Soon – Ashton Gibbons “Gold Teeth” Son of FNP, Gibbons of Marigot

White Roses for Ashton aka "Gold Teeth"

Our deepest sympathies are being expressed to the Gibbons family on the tragic and sudden death of their beloved son, brother, husband, father and friend who passed away on Friday, July 9th in Marigot, Dominica.

A voice has been silenced, a village in morning, dark clouds hang over head and birds no longer sing their familiar songs, but God is still in control and he will make things right. We stand with the family in this their very sad time of mourning.

Let us not be consumed by the same hatred and violence that has silenced our brother, instead, let us accentuate the positives and think of ways in which we can make his death become a symbol of peace and progression in our community, and Dominica as a whole.  Ashton has left behind numerous family members and friends; most of all, he has left to mourn a lovely wife and a beautiful daughter.  This beautiful, little girl will never have the opportunity to hear her father’s friendly voice, or feel her father’s tender touch. This is our opportunity to do all that we can to keep Ashton’s memories alive and ensure that this little girl will grow up having fun memories of the great father he was.

Ashton, you are gone but not forgotten. Rest in Peace and may God’s perpetual light shine upon you.

A Hot and Bright Day, Feels Like Summer to Me

A view of this lovely garden and its surrounding is a reminder that summer is just around the corner. It’s always a joy to admire the beauty of nature and the refreshing water which brings a sense of peace and serenity to the mind. Summer is truly a time to get out and enjoy the best of nature, especially after all the snow and indoor days we experienced earlier in the year.

Cake Decorating Class, Session #3

On Tuesday, June 2nd, I attended my cake decorating class session #3.  This is a four week advanced class, which teaches the necessary techniques for working with fondant. The class has been very interesting so far, but you must enjoy playing with the mixture which requires some needing, stretching and folding.  After the combination of fondant and gum paste reaches its necessary consistency, measuring, cutting, creating flowers, bows, and other patterns….. the fascinating and convenient part of working with fondant….. really comes to life.

My ultimate goal is to gain experience necessary to successfully decorate my cakes, using the very popular methods of fondant decorating. It’s truly amazing how the flexibility gum paste and fondant, allows creativity of the most unbelievable and personalized cake designs, non of which would be possible prior to using fondant.

Deadly Landslide in San-Sauvere Dominica, Claimed the Lives of Three

A deadly landslide in the village of San-Sauvere, Dominica, has claimed the lives of three members of a family when their house was completely engulfed by the slide. Two others escaped but were injured in the slide. Residents were getting ready for a celebration on Monday, when the tragedy occurred. According to DNO, PM Skeritt expressed condolences while urging caution during this rainy season.

Heavy rain falls over the weekend was responsible for such a disastrous landslide, which is unfortunately common during this time of year. According to Dominica News on Line “Skerrit and other government officials visited that community on Monday when they heard about the tragedy.” Many people were helpful in ensuring that the roads were cleared and other residents protected from further incidents.

Our prayers and condolences go out to the family and we trust that everyone on the Island remains vigilant, during this rainy season.  (DNO’s photo)

Home Going Celebrations for my Two Good Friends

Thursday, I attended the home going celebration for my good friend who passed away one week ago. She fought valiantly yet accepted the reality that the end was eminent. While her body was ravished by this deadly disease, her mind remained in tact allowing her the opportunity to communicate with family and friends, to the end. This was a celebration well befitting of the lovely and friendly person she was. Her presence will certainly be missed but her memories will live on in our hearts for ever.

These cupcakes were made for consumption during the repast. I enjoyed making the cupcakes and they were adequately consumed.

On Monday, I attended the home going celebration of my other friend. A send off befitting of the beautiful “violet” she was and the life she lived similar to that of the lovely violet flower. She’ll be missed by many, but her memories will live on in our hearts forever.
