Alvin Alexander is currently putting together the details for our upcoming fund raiser to assist the people of Haiti. We are asking all those who are talented in singing, dancing, or any other cultural talent you may have, to donate your time for this worthy cause. The event will be held on a Saturday, beginning with a children’s party from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, so that children who usually attend our regular children’s party can also be involved in this fund raising affair. The event will continue later that evening from 8:00 pm, for those adults who would prefer to come out early and support the cause. According to Alvin, several groups have expressed their desire to participate in the fund raising affair at Classiqué.

This disaster of unbelievable magnitude has left us all shell shocked just looking at all the death and destruction caused by its aftermath. We must do all that we can to assist the many relief organizations who are dedicated to helping the people of Haiti get through this disaster. Every donation, regardless of the size, will make a significant difference in providing medical, food, shelter, etc. for the people who have no other means of survival. In spite all the devastation, there have been some good news amidst all the rubble, like several people who have been pulled out alive, and many of the orphans who have been given new homes in the United States and Europe, for example. Unfortunately, it took such a massive earthquake to make the world realize that Haiti was in such dire need of help……..this is truly a test of our faith, one which has miraculously kept many of the struggling, yet heroic survivors alive for several days. With much needed assistance, Haiti will rise from the ashes to become a more stable, prosperous and intellectual country, with more admiration for its people, who, in spite of all they have endured, and continue to endure, remain unusually and extremely resilient.

Dominica must be congratulated for recognizing the need and taking actions to assist the people of Haiti, by allowing them to become part of our community, long before this disaster took place. Their presence is evident throughout Dominica, especially in our agricultural sector, an area in which they are very knowledgeable and resourceful. With fertile land made available to them, evidence of large quantities of fruits and vegetables usually on sale in the market and other places, attest to their huge success. We must remember this is a global tragedy, for those who think differently, if being ignorant keeps us in the darkness, although we would rather not be there, then we must fight to “let our light so shine before men, that they may see our good work, and glorify our father who is in heaven.” Let us search our hearts and rise together with the people of Haiti, they are desperately in need of our help and prayers; however, while they are experiencing a disaster of unimarginary magnitude, our future is still unknown.

More information regarding the fund raiser and how you can be of assistance, will be posted soon.
