A Boy, A Smile, and A Pile of Rubble

Seven days after Haiti’s most devastating earthquake, Kiki, a brave, 7-year-old boy, emerged from the rubble with an unforgettable, affectionately broad smile that immediately touched our hearts. The images, captured by a freelance, New York photographer, shows Kiki’s star-bright eyes wide opened, legs dangling, and arms stretched out as far as they could, after being coaxed out of the rubble by his aunt. He appeared very happy and seem to be saying, “I have been through the valley of the shadow of death, but look at me, thank God, I am alive, I am alive.” This unpretentious smile of little Kiki, who amazingly survived the earthquake, after spending seven days with no water or food, gives definite credence to the significance of a genuine smile. Maybe his memories will be that of a young boy playing hide-and-go-seek—–similar to the Italian movie “Life is Beautiful,” where the father of a young boy convinces his son, that being in a concentration camp is simply part of a game, although the father knew that their future was uncertain.

Do you have a reason to smile today? Yes, you certainly do. You are alive, thank God.

We offer very affordable packages to suit your wedding budget, something every bride and groom deserves. Our enclosed stage area is large enough to comfortably seat the bride and groom, as well as members of the bridal party; additionally, lots of balcony space, large patio areas, and, an enclosed bar attached to an open deck, creates ample space to accommodate your many guests. The venue is surrounded by lots of varicolored, continuously blooming, gorgeous flowers, tall palm trees, as well as several exotic fruit trees, including a julie (grafted) mango tree….. reach out and pick a mango from the convenience of the deck, during the mango season. Your guests will enjoy the lovely ambiance in a mostly opened atmosphere, while festively socializing with families and friends.

Classiqué also offers a large, convenient and comfortable suite, to accommodate the entire bridal party. The bride and her bridal party can spend the night pampering themselves in our luxurious suite. Our brides have found this fully air conditioned suite very convenient, not only to themselves and their bridal party, but to their out-of-town guests who might be of assistance to them during the final preparations, before making the much anticipated, grand entrance. Another common reason, which can be very upsetting to the bride on her special day, is having members of her bridal party scattered all over the place and anxiously waiting for them to arrive, a process which often results in the bride being late for her ceremony. You can avoid the stress by renting our luxurious suite the night before your wedding, or the day of your wedding, at a very affordable rate, available to all brides. The suite is also available as a honeymoon suite. Rent it for the convenience stay for the luxury.

Let your tables look special with real linen tablecloth and lighted centerpieces. We offer white linen tablecloth, fine china and decorations for an affordable rental fee. We also do in-house catering for wedding receptions of up to 100 guest.

Classiqué International is also available to international visitors, who are interested in finding a unique and private location, to enjoy an Island wedding. Please contact Cindy at (767) 277-1989, to make your reservations or to obtain additional information.

Classiqué will be Hosting a Fund Raiser to Assist the People of Haiti – Date to be Announced

Alvin Alexander is currently putting together the details for our upcoming fund raiser to assist the people of Haiti. We are asking all those who are talented in singing, dancing, or any other cultural talent you may have, to donate your time for this worthy cause. The event will be held on a Saturday, beginning with a children’s party from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, so that children who usually attend our regular children’s party can also be involved in this fund raising affair. The event will continue later that evening from 8:00 pm, for those adults who would prefer to come out early and support the cause. According to Alvin, several groups have expressed their desire to participate in the fund raising affair at Classiqué.

This disaster of unbelievable magnitude has left us all shell shocked just looking at all the death and destruction caused by its aftermath. We must do all that we can to assist the many relief organizations who are dedicated to helping the people of Haiti get through this disaster. Every donation, regardless of the size, will make a significant difference in providing medical, food, shelter, etc. for the people who have no other means of survival. In spite all the devastation, there have been some good news amidst all the rubble, like several people who have been pulled out alive, and many of the orphans who have been given new homes in the United States and Europe, for example. Unfortunately, it took such a massive earthquake to make the world realize that Haiti was in such dire need of help……..this is truly a test of our faith, one which has miraculously kept many of the struggling, yet heroic survivors alive for several days. With much needed assistance, Haiti will rise from the ashes to become a more stable, prosperous and intellectual country, with more admiration for its people, who, in spite of all they have endured, and continue to endure, remain unusually and extremely resilient.

Dominica must be congratulated for recognizing the need and taking actions to assist the people of Haiti, by allowing them to become part of our community, long before this disaster took place. Their presence is evident throughout Dominica, especially in our agricultural sector, an area in which they are very knowledgeable and resourceful. With fertile land made available to them, evidence of large quantities of fruits and vegetables usually on sale in the market and other places, attest to their huge success. We must remember this is a global tragedy, for those who think differently, if being ignorant keeps us in the darkness, although we would rather not be there, then we must fight to “let our light so shine before men, that they may see our good work, and glorify our father who is in heaven.” Let us search our hearts and rise together with the people of Haiti, they are desperately in need of our help and prayers; however, while they are experiencing a disaster of unimarginary magnitude, our future is still unknown.

More information regarding the fund raiser and how you can be of assistance, will be posted soon.

Wedding Reception of Mr & Mrs Magloire (Parents of Mr Alvin Alexander) Saturday, August 15, 2009

Intimate and elegant was the wedding reception of Mr & Mrs Magloire, parents of Alvin Alexander. Coordinated by Alvin, the events began with a morning ceremony at the Concord Catholic church, and ended with a lovely reception at Classiqué International. Gold and chocolate were the colors chosen to accentuate the beautiful cream gown, which adorned the elegant, petite bride, and the cream suite, which was worn by her handsome groom. A very British wedding setting, which also consisted of several British wedding guest, including the bride’s beautiful sister and her two lovely daughters. A bright and sunny day combined with pretty flowers and tall palm trees, further beautified the venue, making the day perfect for an outdoor wedding. Decorations done by the bride’s sister, were fantastic, and really showcased Classiqué. Festivities lasted just about all day and the wedding guest danced to music provided by Bruce and his guys, a group from Atkinson.

Special thanks to gorgeous and glamourous Valerie Kelly, Ardeen and Lana, for spending a wonderful week at Classiqué International. You were a very sophisticated, friendly and lively group whose fun and laughter kept us entertained throughout the entire week. We enjoyed having you as our guest and look forward to hosting you again very soon. In the meantime, I will keep looking at your lovely pictures on facebook.

Classiqué was honored to have been chosen as the venue for hosting such an intimate and elegant affair. It is our pleasure to extend heartfelt thanks to Mr & Mrs Magloire, while wishing them great success as they continue their lives as husband and wife.

Wedding Reception of Mr & Mrs George (Saturday, December 19, 2009)

These are the lovely photographs of Mr. & Mrs. George and their wedding guest. A small, but beautiful celebration of love, which began with a ceremony at the Wesley Catholic church and ended with a lavish reception at Classiqué International. Undeniably beautiful and graceful was the bride and her groom, as well as their entire bridal party, which consisted of mostly ladies. The bridesmaids were dressed in light green gowns accentuated by crystal jewelry, crystal tiaras and silver shoes, which were all very sparkly and beautiful. Having a junior bride and groom, (my favorite little couple), was significant, because it added glamour and beauty to the occasion, which we all admired. They were well poised, took their responsibilities seriously, while playing the role with utter charm. The venue was enhanced by a bright and sunny day, along with lovely blue skies and lots of varicolored, beautiful flowers, encircled by tall palm trees, which made the outdoor reception very enchanting…….. a perfect ending to an event……. which began and ended fancifully picturesque.

Classiqué International is proud to have been chosen as the venue for such a wonderful affair, which included visitors from several other villages around Dominica. We additionally extend our warmest congratulations and humble thanks to Mr. & Mrs. George, while wishing them continued love, peace, health, wealth, and happiness, as they embark upon their new journey as husband and wife.

Music Sets the Stage and Determines the Outcome of the Performance

Classiqué International remains a classic venue where people of all ages and culture, look forward to having an enjoyable time. By upholding the integrity and true principles by which Classiqué was created, our intention is to keep the venue free of profanity, violence and crime. Classiqué is a venue intended to accommodate a variety of functions, but not at the cost of lowering the standard by which it intends to operate. There is a time and a place for all activities—-some of them are just not suitable to be held at Classiqué. I clearly understand that people love and enjoy a variety of music; however, while the rhythm is great, some of the words are not suitable to be aired at Classiqué. Classiqué reserves the right to refuse those engagements, which in one way or the other, allow performers to operate in such a manner as to bring down the standard of the venue. Songs containing profanity are not suitable to be played at Classiqué, likewise, some DJs ought to limit the use of certain derogatory language, when performing at Classiqué. Classiqué is located in the middle of a residential community, which means, the noise can be heard for miles, throughout the village, especially during the wee hours of the morning. As the owner of Classiqué, I am obligated to monitor and control the type of music that is being played, as well as the level of profanity that is released, during any given performance. It is also important to me that the same standard and procedures be enforced during my absence. Music is universal and is meant to unite us in love, not to degrade and tear us down by encouraging violence and crime.

The reward of hosting a successful and enjoyable affair is feeling a sense of satisfaction rather than being disappointed at the end of the performance. Music sets the mood for the performance and determines the final outcome of the performance; therefore, it is important that music must be used as a tool to unite people instead of a means to create division among the masses. Play decent songs with good lyrics so people can dance and enjoy themselves. When we listen to positive music that lifts our spirits, and put us in a festive mood, we encourage and extract the best qualities from each other, ultimately, we will experience immeasurable joy and happiness, as a direct result of the music we listen to (especially the young people). Music is very powerful and can be very influential to the mind, so think before you play and choose your songs wisely. When performing, let your music be universal and your success of achieving the highest recognition, will be better guaranteed.

Haiti in Crisis – An Earthquake and the Aftermath – Our Help is Urgently Needed

We at Classiqué International would like to express our heartfelt sadness and deep concern for the people of Haiti, during this time of a disaster of unbelievable proportion, which has devastated the country, leaving people with little hope for the future. The magnitude of destruction and death is beyond comprehension. We can only imagine what pain and suffering the many families, friends and all those who are directly involved in the recovery effort, are experiencing at this time. As expected, expeditious donations of medical expertise/supplies, food, water and other necessary equipments are on the way to Haiti, from America as well as several other countries — hopefully, the much needed help will arrive in time to save lives, as well as minimize future destruction.

As always, Anderson Cooper (CNN Reporter), as well as the other great and fearless journalists, are doing a great job at keeping the world informed. May God continue to guide and protect all those who are unselfishly risking their lives to help the people of Haiti at this time. We are all reminded that in spite of all the man-made disasters, which occur over a period of days, weeks, months and years, there is definitely a stronger force to be reckoned with — putting things into perspective, this earthquake lasted less than a minute but destroyed what mankind took hundreds of years to build. The death and destruction left behind by the earthquake has affected the entire world and its devastating effects will most certainly last for many, many years to come.

Classiqué is fortunate to have very dedicated, hard working Haitians as part of our small and committed staff. Therefore, I feel very strongly that we as a people must do our part to assist the people of Haiti, in this their greatest time of need — in more ways than one. This is a disaster that has shocked the world and is very difficult to watch; however, watching the destruction of the earthquake without assisting the victims, will be equally devastating.

Classiqué International is planning to host a fund raiser (dinner and dance or party), at the end of February or early March, to assists the people of Haiti. More information will be made available regarding the date and time of the event. This is a very worthy cause so we look forward to your generous support, as we do our part to assist the people of Haiti, during this most disastrous time.
